Save money and eat well with local vegetable baskets
Small share of experience today on
my weekly vegetable baskets.
All day long we are constantly told that we must eat 5 fruits and vegetables a day. Ok but at what price?
Like many of you, I want to buy fresh products but my budget does not allow it.
So I looked in different supermarket signs, in the market, at the producers ... and my choice turned for a GAEC near my home. I preferred the proximity, the budget and especially my desire to help local producers.
If you want to grow like me to producers, you will see that there are several "types" of distribution if I can say it like that.
There are -> live producers
-> The cooperatives: group of producers in a store for example (dairy cooperative ..)
-> The AMAP (Association for the maintenance of a peasant agriculture): association of local producers with a partnership between the consumer and the farmer in the form of subscription for a season or 2 to baskets of fruits and / or vegetables
-> The GAEC (agricultural group operating jointly): Here it is an association, literally, of farmers whose aim is to pool their productions. No subscription in this case.
Personally, I opted for a basket of vegetables at the GAEC St Sebastien near Albertville. No subscription and I vary the basket formula according to the guests I receive at home 🙂
So these are necessarily seasonal products sold in the form of basket of which we do not choose the composition. It forces us to cook fruits and vegetables that we are sometimes not used to and for a reasonable price.
Discovery at the rendezvous!
** For example for my basket of tomorrow at 15 € there will be: sweet potato, aubergine, pepper of color, carrot, bronze onion, salad and watermelon and if I opt for the formula to 25 €: there will be juice of homemade apple, 6 fresh eggs, tomato and melon. **
So there is enough for a family of 3 to 4 people.
Of course in a logic a little green anyway: do not hesitate to inquire about the type of crop used (with or without pesticides) and near you to reduce your carbon footprint - it is even better.
--Attention I have no partnership of any kind whatsoever. It's just an example, to show you that we can buy fresh produce for a reasonable budget .--
Of course there are AMAP and GAEC all over France. I put some useful links at the end of this article to help you find one near you.
